Goosebumps and shivers down our spine at the same time – another beloved Beat ’em Up franchise is getting reimagined with what appears to be a certain TMNT Shredder’s Revenge flavor. We’re talking about Double Dragon, in the form of Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons! This is another attempt at a remake for the series, following the release of a 2011 iPhone game and, more notably, Wayforward’s Double Dragon Neon (2012) and Double Dragon IV by Arc System Works (2017).
The game is being developed by Secret Base, who made a name for themselves in the Brawler business with the well-received permadeath beat ’em up game “Streets of Red”.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons boasts some notable features that suggest it will be a fun co-op experience geared towards replayability, much like TMNT. According to the publisher, the game promises “classically-informed” co-op, tag-team, and rogue-lite elements, all intertwined with the look and feel of the original Double Dragon games. In addition, the game will feature a whopping 13 playable characters! We do have to note that the co-op feature is couch co-op only, as far as we know, which is a big bummer.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons will hit PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this Summer.
