Former Metal Slug devs are now working on Black Finger Jet

Some of the developers who worked on the first three games in the Metal Slug series, then employed by the now-defunct Nazca Corporation, have reunited to form a new company called Kohachi Studio. The studio recently released a teaser trailer for its inaugural project, titled “Black Finger Jet.”

Not much information has been disclosed so far, but it is known that the game will be a Run & Gun title, likely following in the footsteps of Metal Slug. The pixel art showcased in the teaser bears a striking resemblance to the renowned run and gun franchise.

Several key members from the original Metal Slug team are involved in this venture. “Meeher,” the producer of all the mainline Metal Slug games, has joined the team. Akio Oyabu, the artist responsible for the distinctive look of the Metal Slug series and games like “In the Hunt,” is also on board. Although not previously associated with the franchise, the team’s game director, Shinano Ishiguro, boasts an impressive list of indie game productions, notably including the action-adventure Märchen Forest.

Another integral member of the team is Takushi Hiyamuta, who composed the score for the original trilogy and Metal Slug X.

No additional gameplay details were provided in the trailer, suggesting that the development is still in its early stages. The team is actively seeking new talent, particularly in the areas of 3D game design and animation, hinting at a potential 3D/pixel art hybrid game. We are eagerly anticipating what this team has in store and will keep you updated!
