Our Gamescom reporter, Fleaman, has been on the lookout for retro-inspired games on the world’s biggest video game gathering. Of course, this year the retro and indie sections of the convention floor have plenty of retro-like goodness to discover. The first game that catched our attention is Abathor, by Spanish outfit Pow Pixel Games and publisher Jandusoft.
Fleaman was hands-on with the game and we’re certainly impressed with the games unique 4 player platforming hack and slash gameplay. Working together with 3 other co-op companions is essential to progress. You can invite some friends over for some cosy couch co-op or just let join an online lobby.
Jandusoft’s description:
Abathor is a 2D arcade action platformer for up to 4 players. You are the last hope in defense of Atlantis, you’ll face hordes of enemies and countless challenges. Enjoy its pixel art and epic music. A cooperative and competitive game to achieve glory or death.
The hack & slash and platforming gameplay has a lot in common with NES era Castlevania, in style and tempo, but s lot of influences can be found to other classics as well. The project is still underway and we at Retrolike.net will keep an eye on it. Abathor is set to release on Steam and all console platforms.
