We’ve been watching the announcement trailer in amazement, back and forth, numerous times now. And it is a bit of an understatement that we are as hyped as can be for the remkes Sega announced at the Game Awards last night. In a rather epic cinematic trailer, five fan-favorite Sega franchises are introduced.
5 Sega remakes announced at the Game Awards
For now, we know that Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi are getting complete remakes, with apparently more to come.
Surprisingly, the remakes as a collective are very diverse in approach, it seems. Where Golden Axe and Streets of Rage seem to be moving into 3D, something fans have been anticipating (or dreading) since the once-abandoned development of the original Streets of Rage 4 for Sega’s Dreamcast console. Both look phenomenal at first glance.
Visual overhauls
Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio were 3D to begin with, and both have undergone a very rigorous makeover, adding additional content as well. The Crazy Taxi part of the trailer shows cars we haven’t seen before. Both seem to stick to their core gameplay, though.
Shinobi going Metroidvania?
The odd one out is Shinobi, which stays in a 2D perspective. In terms of gameplay, the short bits of footage do seem to indicate a more Metroidvania approach, which could definitely sound like a great idea.
More remakes coming
Furthermore, the trailer hints that Sega has other remake projects lined up as well, without further name-dropping. There were no release dates mentioned. We will keep you up-to-date as soon as the news drops.
