On November 27th, QUByte brought Street Racer franchise back from abandonware status with a collection that gathers four classic versions of the game in one package. Street Racer became known in the nineties for mixing arcade racing with light brawler mechanics. Drivers could use special moves to knock rivals off course while navigating tracks filled with hazards and visual gags.

The collection includes the SNES, Megadrive, MS-DOS and Game Boy versions. Each version retains its original content and presentation, giving us a view of how the game shifted across platforms. Unfortunately, the widely different Sega Saturn and Playstation versions is not present in the collection. Up to 27 tracks are included, ranging from Mount Rushmore to a cartoon version of Transylvania. The roster features eight drivers with vehicles that lean toward comic design and each character carries a unique special attack.

Street Racer Collection supports local multiplayer on SNES, Megadrive and MS-DOS. The mix of short sprints and longer endurance races remains intact. The press release highlights the return of two less common modes as well. Rumble Mode focuses on knocking opponents out of an arena and Soccer Mode turns the race cars into improvised football players, although this mode is not present in the MS-DOS version.

Practice, Head-to-Head and Championship modes round out the package. Championship mode lets players combine tracks and difficulty settings to build their own series.

QUByte positions the release as a preservation effort for a game that experimented with genre boundaries at a time when kart racers were still defining their identity. The studio describes the collection as a chance to revisit a title that balanced light racing with a playful competitive edge.
