Flap Happy takes flight on the NES and Game Boy

A new avian hero spreads its wings in the 8-bit action platformer Flap Happy! A new game developed be Refresh Games and available through Mega Cat Studios for both the NES and Game Boy. It promises frantic flapping action in over 900 dynamic levels. Taking off will be easy, but sticking that landing will require some serious skill!

So, admit it, you’ve already thought of Flappy Bird! While this game does feature the same pesky gravity as a main antagonist and require a lot of flapping of our bird friend Flappy, its gameplay has a stronger resemblance to a more fast-paced Balloon Fight, in my opinion.

Each single screen level contains five platforms you’ll need to land on, in order for the exit to the next level to appear. Of course this won’t be a simple task, as there will be many deadly encounters along your flight path, such as hungry (jumping?) sharks, treacherous spikes and other hazards ready to clip your wings.

Since the stages are procedurally generated, each climb towards the highest of high scores will offer a slightly different experience. The game was officially released on the 14th of November. If you want to go for a spin, before taking off completely, there is also a demo available to get a little taste of the action.

Seb lives in the past, enjoying stuff from years ago or things that remind of the 'good old days'. He's fond of most retro gaming systems and for some reason has a thing with the Philips CD-i. He doesn't see very well, maybe that's why?
