Back in 2015, Nightdive Studios acquired the rights to the cult classic System Shock from 1994. They released an enhanced version of the game. Shortly after, Nightdive Studios announced their plan to create a full-fledged remake. They aimed to fund its development through a Kickstarter campaign that started on June 29th, with a goal of US$900,000. The campaign successfully reached its goal with 19 days left, ultimately raising $1.35 million. After a tumultuous development journey with several changes, the game has finally been released on PC after 8 years.
The original System Shock from 1994 was a first-person action-adventure game developed by LookingGlass Studios. Set aboard a space station in a cyberpunk vision of the year 2072, players assumed the role of a nameless security hacker tasked with thwarting the plans of a malevolent artificial intelligence named SHODAN. The game received critical acclaim for its immersive gameplay, impressive graphics, sound design, and captivating storyline.
