Goosebumps and shivers down our spine at the same time – another beloved Beat ’em Up franchise is getting reimagined with what appears to be a certain TMNT Shredder’s Revenge flavor. We’re talking about Double Dragon, in the form of Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons! This is another attempt at a remake for the series, following the release of a 2011 iPhone game and, more notably, Wayforward’s Double Dragon Neon (2012) and Double Dragon IV by Arc System Works (2017). The game is being developed by Secret Base, who made a name for themselves in the Brawler business…

This is a Itorah review, specifically for the Nintendo Switch version. This game is also available for PC (Steam), Playstation 4/5 and Xbox Series S/X. The Switch version is available for €/$ 19.99 in the Nintendo eShop. Never have I been more torn by a game (and in particular by this port) than by Itorah. The German indie developer, Grimbart Tales, managed to create a visually stunning video game set in an immersive world, but unfortunately, they weren’t unable to get it to work properly on the Switch. Allow me to explain why. Itorah takes place in a fantasy world…

The first volume of this IREM compilation contains three games from one particular franchise in IREM’s shmup library, Image Fight: The complete collection will consist of five volumes. With a bit of imagination, you can assume there will be a Kung Fu collection (featuring Kung Fu, Kung Fu 2, and Vigilante), an R-Type collection, and possibly even a volume collecting the publisher’s personal favorites, such as…

This is our review for Hyper-5 released by Magic Cube on the Nintendo Switch. It is available now for $/€ 9.99 and is on sale until 5/2/2023 for $/€ 7.99 in the eShop. It appears that there is a constant stream of shmups being released on Steam, itch.io, and consoles. Apart from quantity it appears its a challenge for indie developers to differentiate their new games. Innovation in this genre can be particularly difficult with so much games coming out. We’ve seen bullet hells, bullet grazers, horizontal and vertical shmups, as well as various combinations. However, to the best of…
