Whilst everyone with only a slight interest in Metroidvanias is playing Prince of Persia : The Lost Crown at the moment, we sometimes forget that the Nintendo eShop is filled with hidden gem genre games like Overlord : Escape from Nazarick. The game has been anonymously in the eShop since 2022. It never really been promoted heavily or showed up in any sales.

Thankfully, Selecta Play, currently also campaigning the Blasphemous 2 physical release, has pulled Overlord into the limelight by announcing it will physically release the game for its official retail release. Overlord will be released as a Limited Edition only, containing the game, a printed instruction manual, an Adventure’s Guild pendant, the original soundtrack on CD and a special printed artbook. Along with all these goodies you’ll get a digital code to download the OST and the a digital version of the artbook. There has not been an exact release date, other than “somewhere early 2024”.

For those unfamiliar with the game, here’s a brief overview from the publisher:

OVERLORD: ESCAPE FROM NAZARICK is a 2D dark fantasy action adventure, where Players will act as the warrior Clementine who wakes up inside the underground Great Tomb of Nazarick. She has been imprisoned by a mysterious undead called Ainz Ooal Gown, who forces her to participate in brutal experiments. Without her weapons and suffering from amnesia, she must defeat Ainz and his many challenging servants as she makes her way to freedom.

    Features:

    • Escape the Great Tomb of Nazarick – At first, Clementine will be unarmed and, thanks to her amnesia, unable to exercise the full extent of her abilities.

Clementine will need to explore every inch of the Great Tomb of Nazarick in order to regain her arsenal of weapons and powers and use them to make her escape.

    • Action-Packed Parkour – Clementine’s incredible agility allows her to perform superhuman feats of parkour that will help her navigate her environment in a variety of ways.
    • Martial Arts and Magic – Make use of Clementine’s wide array of abilities to boost her firepower and mobility. Mastery of different types of magic will be essential in exploring the various stages of the game.
    • Upgrade Weapons – Upgrade the weapons you find around the Tomb to exploit your enemies’ weaknesses and hone your favourites to perfection.
    • Regain Clementine’s Memories and Uncover the Truth – Clementine’s memories will be hidden throughout the various stages of the game in the form of memory fragments. Find them to unravel the many mysteries surrounding Clementine’s current predicament.

The rich world of Overlord is yours to explore in this robust, story-driven metroidvania.
