Tatsujin Reveals New Truxton Gameplay Trailer

This summer’s game announcement season seemed to pass over shmup fans — until the Future Games Show: Summer Showcase dropped a surprise update right in the middle of the presentation. Truxton Extreme is alive and well, developed by the core team at Tatsujin, led by none other than Truxton‘s original creator and current Tatsujin CEO, Masahiro Yuge. The game was first revealed nearly two years ago, and while that trailer included gameplay, this latest appearance suggests a playable demo is coming during Steam Next Fest.

Yuge-san has set clear goals for this revival of the much-loved franchise. Judging by the trailer, Truxton Extreme stays true to the original’s core mechanics — including the three iconic weapon types: the Power Shot, Truxton Beam, Thunder Laser and Homing Shot. Visually, Tatsujin has modernized the look with detailed 3D backgrounds and models, while keeping the gameplay firmly on a 2D plane. It’s both fresh and instantly recognizable.

Although some form of the game will be playable starting tomorrow, the trailer didn’t mention a release date for the full version just yet. We’ll update this article once we’ve had a chance to try the demo ourselves.
