Kings Do Not Fall Demo Now Live on Steam

Japanese studio HyperDevbox has released a free playable demo of Kings Do Not Fall on Steam. The retro-inspired beat ’em up is scheduled to launch in Q1 2026 on PC via Steam and on Android through Google Play. An exact release date has not yet been announced.

The demo offers access to the game’s opening level and introduces fun little competitive element: players can compete for a spot in the Demo Top 30 leaderboard. A very creative way to add some traction to the game’s demo, we think.

    A kingdom on the brink

Kings Do Not Fall is set in the fractured realm of Solara. King Alden, its last ruler, faces the advancing forces of Umbra, apparently, all alone. Goblins, orcs and restless dead pour into a shattered valley as darkness spreads across the land.

The full game promises six hand-crafted stages, each culminating in a boss encounter. The structure follows classic arcade traditions: clear waves of enemies, move forward, face a major threat, and repeat with steadily increasing difficulty. The narrative frames each battle as part of Alden’s determination to stand firm, even as his kingdom collapses around him. Many retro gamers will likely see parallels with The King of Dragons and Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara. The key difference is that HyperDevbox opts for a 2.5D presentation rather than traditional 2D pixel art.

    Arcade Foundations with Modern Tweaks

The gameplay builds on familiar side-scrolling combat. Players can chain combo attacks, use smash moves, switch between weapons and unleash powerful super attacks. A CRT visual filter is included for those who want a scanline-styled presentation. According to HyperDevbox, the aim is to combine the immediacy of arcade beat ’em ups with updated mechanics that keep the pacing tight.

Kings Do Not Fall is planned for release later this quarter on PC and Android. Until then, the demo is available now on Steam for anyone ready to defend Solara’s last stand.
