After giving Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars a successful modern revival, Revolution Software is bringing its celebrated sequel back for a new generation. Red Art Games has announced physical editions of Broken Sword – The Smoking Mirror: Reforged, which will launch for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on February 19, 2027. Rob, our resident Point-and-Click specialist, reviewed Shadow of the Templars and awarded it with a 9/10, so you can imagine we are pretty hyped about this release as well!
George and Nico Return
Originally released in 1997, Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror once again follows American tourist George Stobbart and investigative journalist Nico Collard. What begins as an investigation into a dangerous drug cartel soon unravels into a supernatural adventure centred around an ancient Mayan artefact, taking the duo across the globe to stop forces far beyond ordinary criminals.

The Reforged edition preserves the original point-and-click adventure while introducing a host of modern improvements. Players can instantly switch between the original 1997 presentation and the newly remastered visuals, allowing newcomers and longtime fans alike to experience both versions with a single button press.
A Faithful Remaster
Rather than simply increasing the resolution, The Smoking Mirror: Reforged adds several quality-of-life improvements and previously unseen content. The remaster features enhanced audio, restored dialogue that was cut from the original scripts and unlockable extras for players who complete the adventure.

Those looking for the classic experience can play in Traditional Mode, while Story Mode offers subtle hints to help players enjoy the narrative without getting stuck on the game’s more challenging puzzles.
Confirmed features include:
- Beautifully remastered visuals with 4K support on compatible platforms
- Enhanced audio
- Instant switching between the original and remastered presentation
- Restored dialogue from the original scripts
- Unlockable bonus content
- Traditional Mode and Story Mode
- Full voice acting in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish
Limited Deluxe Edition Announced
Collectors will have two physical editions to choose from. The standard edition will be available through retailers via Meridiem Games and includes a printed instruction manual. Cover artwork will vary by territory, with localised English, French, German, Italian and Spanish covers.
For dedicated fans, Red Art Games is also releasing an exclusive Deluxe Edition for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. Limited to 500 copies, it includes:
- A copy of the game
- An exclusive sleeve featuring the original Broken Sword II cover artwork
- The official soundtrack on CD
- A pixel-art Nico keychain
- A printed instruction manual

The original Broken Sword games remain among the defining point-and-click adventures of the late 1990s, and Revolution Software has shown with the first Reforged release that these classics can be modernised without losing their identity. Broken Sword – The Smoking Mirror: Reforged looks set to continue that approach, offering longtime fans an authentic way to revisit George and Nico’s second adventure while making it more accessible for newcomers.
Broken Sword – The Smoking Mirror: Reforged launches physically for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on February 19, 2027. Pre-orders for both the standard and limited Deluxe Editions are available now.
