Some exciting news from the Konami front about their upcoming release of Contra: Operation Galuga. The game will be out on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Steam) on March 17th, 2024, with physical releases coming later. Now, Konami has pulled the curtains on who is responsible for the soundtrack of the game. Konami veteran Norihiko Hibino and industry steady Yuko Komiyama will split musical duties on the WayForward developed game.

Komiyama will be on the main score and all other orchestral music. “I am truly honored to be able to participate in the historic Contra series,” notes Yuko Komiyama. “I borrowed some motifs from the original music and created the music to fit the new world view. In my own way, I created it with great care and enjoyment, paying homage to the Contra series. I am sure that it will be a game that everyone will enjoy. Please look forward to it!”

While still dipping his toes into game music from time to time, Hibino-san focused mainly on his Therapeutic music business for the last decade. With Contra: Operation Galuga, he is back on being a lead in game music design. “It was wonderful to revisit the intense action music that defined my early career,” adds Norihiko Hibino. “I was surprised by how quickly this production style came back to me, and I was able to prepare all of my tracks in a burst of inspiration over a couple of weeks. I hope Contra fans enjoy the high-energy boss battles found in Contra: Operation Galuga!”

Before you stepped out, Hibino was one of Konami’s main music producers and worked on games since 2001 on franchises like Metal Gear, Boktai, Zone of the Enders andYu-Gi-Oh! He also created music for Sega published franchises later on like Bayonetta and Yakuza. Komiyama, on her turn, has an incredible freelance track record as well, working for almost all big Japanese publishers as track composer. She’s has track credits on most Monster Hunter games as well as Final Fantasy and Mega Man X7.

Curious on what the created? Check out this Konami’s preview music trailer.

As said the game is available on March 17th, 2024 with pre-orders for the Limited Run physical version available on March the 1st.
