Blaze Entertainment has brought one of Evercade’s earliest cartridges back from the dead. Piko Interactive Collection 1 is available again from today, returning cartridge #09 to the active Evercade line-up more than three years after it entered Legacy status.
Reissues like this are not common within the Evercade ecosystem. In fact, Blaze says this is the first cartridge to officially return after previously receiving Legacy status. That designation normally means the licensing agreement has expired, production has ended and only remaining retail stock continues to be sold.
Almost the Original Collection
Originally released in 2020 as one of Evercade’s first ten cartridges, Piko Interactive Collection 1 went out of production in February 2023. The original release contained 20 games, while the revised edition includes 19. Magic Girl is the sole casualty, with the remainder of the line-up returning.
That still leaves a rather eclectic selection of 8 and 16-bit games, including Brave Battle Saga, Iron Commando, The Immortal, Jim Power: The Lost Dimension, Radical Rex, Top Racer, Water Margin and 8 Eyes.
The reissue retains its original designation as Home Console Cartridge #09, but comes with updated cover artwork matching Evercade’s current packaging design.
Piko Interactive Collection 1 is available now for £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 and works across the Evercade ecosystem, including VS-R, EXP-R, Alpha and the upcoming Evercade Nexus, as well as HyperMegaTech! Super Pocket handhelds.
Its return could also set an interesting precedent. Evercade currently has a growing catalogue of Legacy cartridges that are no longer manufactured, so Piko Interactive Collection 1 demonstrates that Legacy status does not necessarily have to be permanent.
