PLAION REPLAI has delayed the worldwide launch of the NEOGEO AES+ from November 2026 to September 16, 2027. According to the company, demand for the new hardware has significantly exceeded expectations, prompting it to expand production and its long-term plans for the platform. Basically, the original production plans have buckled under the success of the pre-orders.

The NEOGEO AES+ was originally scheduled to launch on November 12 this year. PLAION REPLAI says that going ahead with that date would have resulted in severely limited worldwide availability. Global memory chip shortages, partly driven by increasing demand from AI infrastructure, are cited as one of the main reasons why production cannot currently be scaled up quickly enough.

Rather than launch in limited quantities, PLAION has opted for a staggering ten-month delay. The extra time will be used to secure additional components and expand manufacturing capacity, both for the initial launch and to support future production.

There is something of a consolation prize to go with the delay. PLAION REPLAI says the response to the AES+ has given it the confidence to invest further in the platform. Ten games have already been announced for launch, including Metal Slug, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Pulstar, Twinkle Star Sprites and The King of Fighters 2002, while discussions with additional licensors are underway for further physical releases.

Existing pre-orders will remain valid and retain their position in the production queue, with no action required from customers. PLAION also says there are currently no plans to increase the announced prices.

As compensation for the long wait, all consoles from the initial production run will receive a Founding Supporter Bonus. Standard and Anniversary Edition buyers will receive an additional NEOGEO AES+ Gamepad, while Ultimate Edition customers will receive a 30% discount voucher for a future game purchase.

The limited-production Ultimate Edition will remain available while its allocated stock lasts.

The next major showing for the NEOGEO AES+ will be at Tokyo Game Show 2026, where PLAION REPLAI plans to make the hardware playable and reveal more about its expanding software roadmap.

The NEOGEO AES+ is now scheduled for worldwide release on September 16, 2027.
