Halberd Studios has announced that Mariachi Legends will now launch on April 27, 2027, moving the Mexican pixel art Metroidvania beyond its previously planned Q4 2026 release window. The studio shared the new date in an extensive Kickstarter update following the game’s appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026.

Rather than simply announcing another delay, Halberd has been unusually open about what led to the decision. According to the Kickstarter update, the team underestimated the amount of work still required to optimize, test and prepare Mariachi Legends for release. Recent development has included addressing performance bottlenecks and memory usage as well as revisiting technical debt left by tools and systems created earlier in production.

The decision to self-publish has added another layer of work. Halberd is now handling certification, localization, QA, marketing and launch preparation alongside development. The studio also openly acknowledges that its previous Q4 2026 target was one it ultimately couldn’t meet.

    Mariachi legends delayed

Interestingly, there is a commercial consideration as well. Halberd specifically mentions the proximity of Grand Theft Auto VI as another reason to reconsider its original launch window. For a small independent production, competing for attention around one of the industry’s largest releases simply wasn’t considered a particularly sensible prospect.

Backer Beta Moves to Día de Muertos

The Kickstarter backer beta has also been delayed. Originally scheduled for August, it will now become available on November 2, 2026, appropriately coinciding with Día de Muertos.

Halberd plans to use the beta as an actual testing phase, collecting feedback on combat, weapons, encounters and technical issues before entering the final stretch of development. The studio stresses that the additional development time isn’t intended to expand the scope of the project, but to finish and polish what is already there.

    Mariachi legends delayed

The Kickstarter update goes considerably deeper into the current state of Mariachi Legends, including its weapon systems, environments, characters and voice cast. Halberd also used Gamescom to show how much the game has changed since its earlier appearances.

The result can be seen in the latest Mariachi Legends trailer, featuring a fresh look at its combat, environments and story:
