As always, Nintendo’s Gamescom-synced Indie World presentation delivered a mix of excitement, though this year it was notably filled with more re-releases than indie titles. Video game giant Capcom stole the spotlight with two highly anticipated follow-ups to their original Capcom Fighting Collection. Capcom Fighting Collection 2 arguably brings together the finest fighting games from the ’90s and ’00s released by the Osaka-based publisher and developer.
In addition to this exciting announcement, Capcom also teased the Marvel vs. Capcom Collection during the presentation. This news means that, once these collections are out, a large chunk of Capcom’s fighting game library will be officially re-released on modern consoles.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 includes eight games, featuring fan favorites like Capcom vs. SNK 1 and 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and both Power Stone games. Fighting game connoisseurs will be especially ecstatic to see Project Justice included—a game that, as far as we know, is being re-released for the first time since its original debut in arcades and on the Dreamcast.
Additionally, the 3D PlayStation hidden gem Plasma Sword and the obscure PlayStation and OG Xbox title Capcom Fighting Evolution are included, offering a mix of proven fan favorites and discoverable gems for many players.
Beyond the games, the collection offers a host of features and extras, building on the foundation of its predecessor. Expect the gallery and music player to return, along with tons of gameplay features like filters, advanced training modes, and online multiplayer.
The complete game list is:
- Capcom vs. SNK
- Capcom vs. SNK 2
- Power Stone
- Power Stone 2
- Project Justice
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Plasma Sword
- Capcom Fighting Evolution
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection
The incredible Marvel vs. Capcom collection, presented at the beginning of Nintendo’s Indie World video, addresses all the frustrations fans have endured with scattered releases—some of which remained exclusive to their original platforms, while others received Xbox Live Arcade or PSN releases. This new collection brings together the entire set, offering a elusive set of games:
- X-Men: Children of the Atom
- Marvel Super Heroes
- Marvel vs. Capcom
- X-Men vs. Street Fighter
- Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
- Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
- Marvel vs. Capcom 2
As a bonus, Capcom has also included the fan-favorite arcade beat ’em up, The Punisher. Altogether, this is a fantastic and definitive collection of the 2D Marvel fighting games developed by Capcom, with the only exclusion being Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which is considered part of the modern era. We’ll let Capcom slide on that one.
