Atari has been very ‘promiscuous‘ with its trademarks the last couple of years. Since all Atari rights are in the hands of the French Atari SA, it has been slapping its logos on any producers product that wants a piece of the pie. My Arcade announced at CES that it is releasing another wave of Atari-branded hardware. The California-based retro toy company previously partnered with Atari, resulting in the Atari Collection products consisting of the Atari Gamestation Pro and The Atari mini consoles. Now, they are adding the Gamestation Portable, the Atari Mega Player, and the Atari Super Player to their product list.
Gamestation Portable
The Gamestation Portable is a handheld version of the Gamestation Pro, which on its own is a fancy looking successor to the Atari Flashback. It is a gaming handheld, and a very large one, going off the 7″ display that has been in the press info. By comparison, both the ROG Ally and Steam Dack have 7″ screens too. There hasn’t been details made public on what kind of display we are talking about. It comes in authentic 1970s styling you might have seen on the Atari Collection products, featuring the stereotypical yellow-orange-brown color combination you probably think of. It might give you instant flashbacks to your gran’s old interior, but we think it looks pretty cool and fit for the product.
We presume it features the roughly the same 200+ Atari games the Gamestation Pro has, consisting of Atari classics like Breakout, Pong and Astroids. Other features are the ability to save your games and has nifty looking mini trackball and paddle controls situated around the D-pad. exact price and release dates haven’t been mentioned, but it is slated for a 2024 release.
Atari Mega Player and Atari Super Player
My Arcade is mostly known for it’s mini Arcades, you can find at every large supermarket nowadays. These Mega en Super Player product are suped up supersized versions of those, basically. Just like the Gamestation Portable, no additional information has been given about the content on the devices.
The systems have respectively a 7″ (17,8 cm) and a whopping 10″ (25,4 cm) display, making it much larger than, for example, a Neo Geo Mini and Taito EGRET II, which both have 5″ (12,7 cm) screens. They also stick to the same color and controller scheme.
Again, no news on release dates and pricing. It is safe to say that My Arcade is trying their hand at products fit for the more high-end collector’s market instead of the wholesale toy-like output they had so far. Let’s wait and see how these devices materialize. As soon as we find out more, you’ll find it here on retrolike.net.
